| Curriculum vitae

Masahiro Nakagawa was born in Kyoto, Japan in 1958. He received the B.Sc. and M. Sc. degrees in the Department of Electrical Engineering from Nagaoka University of Technology, in 1980 and 1982, respectively. He also received Ph. degree in the Department of Applied Physics from Nagoya University in 1988. He has been a faculty member of engineering at the Nagaoka University of Technology since 1982, and became an associate professor in 1989, became a Professor in 2001. He was a visiting researcher, supported from Monbu-sho of Japan, at the Department of Mathematics, University of Strathclyde in Scotland from 1988 to 1989. His recent activity is concerned with the fractals and chaos in science and engineering, e.g. the chaos in EEG and vocal sounds, the chaos neural networks with a periodic activation function, the iterated function system for image coding etc. Also he is interested in the physics of liquid crystals involving the molecular theory and the viscoelastic continuum theory. Dr. Nakagawa is a member of the Japanese Neural Network Society, the Physical Society of Japan, Japanese Society of Applied Physics. He has authored books including " Chaos and Fractals in Engineering (World Scientific, 1999)", " Liquid Crystalline Phase Transitions (Springer-Verlag, 2001)" etc.
